Our Team


With a history dating back to the early 1900’s, the Whanganui office turned 100 in 2019. However, this is far from an old business. Throughout its history the firms which have comprised Balance have evolved to meet the needs of clients – the purchase of an innovative consulting business in 2015 being an example of this.

The office has also been strong in its community contribution and also has supported major Maori incorporations and Trusts since their inception through to present day – including Atihau Whanganui Incorporation.

Craig is a Partner and joined the Balance Group in 2013 after working in both government and private sector roles in Wellington.  During this time he has specialised in areas of international taxation, management accounting & financial reporting.

He is our ‘go to guy’ for business structures and advises small to medium enterprises (SME’s) on a wide range of issues and opportunities. Craig’s passion is for growing new businesses and assisting the next generation in creating value. He is also an accomplished taxation planner, with a deep understanding of tax law.

Yvonne is a shareholder of Balance. Her career began in the Whanganui office of the Inland Revenue Department and then progressed to the Investigations unit where she gained extensive experience in the accounting and taxation areas. She received her CA certification in 1988 whilst still working at Inland Revenue. Yvonne joined Peach Cornwall Ltd (which then merged into Balance Chartered Accountants) and continued to expand her experience to encompass all areas of accounting taxation – individual, corporate, partnership, trusts, estates, non-profit organisations, performing consulting and planning services in these areas as well.

In 2005, Yvonne became a Partner in Balance. She provides consulting, compliance, and planning services in the accounting and tax areas for a variety of industries.

Yvonne enjoys golf and is a member of the Wanganui Golf Club. She has recently been elected to the Wanganui Golf Club Board and is looking forward to adding value in that role.
She is also a member of the Alzheimers Wanganui Board and is the Honorary Treasurer.

Lupton is an Associate who is situated in the Whanganui Balance office and 90% of his current client workload is assisting Maori entities with management and year end reporting requirements,  providing appropriate problem-solving solutions, miscellaneous systems and governance advice to and on behalf of those Maori entities and project managing effective compliance requirements to statutory and internal deadlines (e.g. Audits).

In the last 10 years, his focus has been predominantly assisting clients with management reporting in the Maori sector, charitable entity requirements, and designing and implementing practical sustainable financial reporting and software systems including remote processing systems. 

In particular, he has provided structures and accounting advice to an iwi throughout their treaty settlement journey (Nga Rauru Iwi). He is part of the team servicing Te Ātihau Whanganui Inc. and leads the team servicing the needs of charitable entities Nga Tai o Te Awa Trust (health education sector) and Te Puna Matauranga O Whanganui Trust (Education sector). Other current clients include Te Maru O Ruahine Trust group (Te Runanga O Ngati Hauiti) and Tupoho Iwi community social services Trust and The Whanganui River Maori Trust Board.

John Taylor (JT) has been a Partner and the CEO of Balance Chartered Accountants since 2005.

His main role is to provide leadership to the entire Balance team and manage the company’s day to day operations in line with our strategic plan, vision, and values and to ensure that Balance fulfils its Purpose & Core Values so we can assist our customers to fulfil theirs. He has a number of key relationships with various stakeholders within the firm and externally with our customers and other community business leaders.

John started with Balance Chartered Accountants (then Peach Cornwall & Partners) in early 1997 as the practice’s first Practice Manager and he also worked with clients looking after their accounting requirements. Over the years the business has changed significantly as has his role and he also now also leads our Business Development team assisting clients with Business Growth & Performance, Leadership & Change Management and Accountability Coaching.

New Plymouth & Stratford



Laurie started out in partnerships in New Plymouth and Stratford in the late 1980s, and in December 2009, he became the sole practitioner of these offices. In January 2020 when Laurie Jordan FCA Limited became a member firm of the Balance Group, Laurie stepped aside as principal and became a consultant.  Laurie is a Fellow Chartered Accountant due to his high level of professional experience with a strong focus on farm accountancy.



Paige has been with Laurie Jordan for just over a year after graduating with a Bachelor of Applied Management majoring in accounting.  She enjoys the challenge of working with numbers and working with people to achieve their financial goals.   

Outside of work Paige helps her partner on his dairy farm and enjoys spending time reading or walking and catching up with her family and friends.  Paige also has a soft spot for pets and has a puppy and two cats.


Practice Manager

Brenda has a long history with Laurie Jordan having started here in March 1994.  Brenda has Bachelor of Management Studies and is a qualified chartered accountant.    She is our 2IC and has a wide expertise and a knowledge of all areas of our practice.  

When not in the office Brenda and her husband are kept busy raising their two teenage daughters and 11-year-old son.  Brenda also finds time to coach and watch sport.


Office Administrator

Rachael is our very experienced office administrator and has been with us sine August 2005.  She has over 20 years’ experience in administration and helps keeps us all organised. 

Rachael has a passion for all sorts of sewing including quilting and cross stitch. She also enjoys sitting down and reading for relaxation.


Accounting Support

Phillippa has been here at Laurie Jordan for the past 13 years.  Her first two years were spent in office administration but for the past 11 years she has focussed on accounting support and, as a result, she has a broad knowledge of all areas of our practice.

Family time with her fiancé, Chad, and their son, Bjorn, is important to Phillippa and she also enjoys eating out and watching and playing sports.
